The GAU Predictor in PQAI helps you identify the most likely Group Art Units (GAUs) where your invention might be assigned during patent prosecution at the USPTO.
This prediction is valuable if you’re preparing to file a patent application, drafting claims, or planning examiner-specific strategies. It gives you a sense of the technology domain your invention falls into and which art units typically handle such inventions.
Here’s how to use the GAU Predictor:
#1. Go to search.projectpq.ai
#2. From the left-hand sidebar, click on GAU Predictor

#3. In the text box, enter the description of your invention in a sentence and hit Search.
#4. The tool will now display the most likely Group Art Units for your idea. Each art unit result includes:
- Art unit number (e.g., 3665, 3663, 3647)
- Domain covered by the unit (e.g., robotics, navigation, agriculture)
- Frequent citation data and examiner insights when available to help understand the assignment frequency.

This can give you a head start on understanding how your invention might be categorized and which examiners are likely to handle it.
